Who I Am Not

I am not in search of a six-fingered man. And, even if I were, it wouldn’t be because he killed my father.

If you don’t know the reference, check out The Princess Bride, a film featuring a character named Inigo Montoya, whose first name is the Basque version of my first name. He identifies as a Spaniard, as did many of my ancestors, some of whose descendants made their way to the land that is now crossed by the US-Mexico border, where I was born.

Partially as a result of my ancestors’ migration patterns, I am a native speaker of Spanish as spoken in the north of Mexico and along the US-Mexico border, as well as of English as spoken in the Southwestern United States.
